Full Professor of Information Technology at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Udine and member of the Scheduling and Timetabling Group at the Department of Electrical, Management and Mechanical Engineering.
Andrea Schaerf was born in Rome, Italy, on June 30, 1965. He received his master degree cum laude in Electrical Engineering from University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1990 and his PhD in Computer Science from the same university in 1994, his advisor being prof. Maurizio Lenzerini. During his studies, he spent one year at Stanford University (California, U.S.A.) under the supervision of prof. Yoav Shoham. After graduating, he was supported for one year by a scholarship from CNR offered by Comitato Nazionale per la Scienza e le Tecnologie dell'Informazione at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". In 1995 (spring semester) he has been a lecturer at the School of Engineering at University of Rome "La Sapienza" for the undergraduate course Foundations of Computer Science. Successively, he spent one year at CWI in Amsterdam under the supervision of prof. Krzysztof R. Apt, supported by a fellowship from ERCIM (European Research Consorsium for Informatics and Mathematics). From April 1996 to October 1998 he has been Assistant Professor ("Ricercatore") at the Dipartimento di Informatica e Sistemistica of University of Rome "La Sapienza". From November 1998 to October 2005 he has been Associate Professor ("Professore Associato") at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica, Gestionale e Meccanica of University of Udine, where starting November 2005, he is Full Professor ("Professore Straordinario").
